"The Hyde Bay Saga"

Just for fun - View the following text with a Theme theme - click here

Warren Hills' passion was video. He brought a BetaCam video recorder to camp in 1953 - 1956, 1958, and 1961 and the result became legendary for Hyde Bay Campers: "The Hyde Bay Saga." Walter Lord suggested the two-plus hours be shortened to prevent boredom.

The master tapes were lost over the years, then rediscovered in 2003. To view a dialog from Warren writing about his work to Fred Gale in our blog of April, 2003, click here.

Fred Gale (camper, U.L., councilor 1959 - 1969), with the help of video editor Steve Sherrick, worked with Hillsy's master tapes for countless hours to condense the contents into a meaningful and inclusive "saga" with cleverly overlaid period-appropriate, and often funny, music throughout the entire length of the project.

Fred and Steve Sherrick's result was still long enough (1:33:46) to require segmentation editing, coding for QuickTime, deletion of nude scenes, page design and uploading by Steve Cunningham (camper, U.L., councilor 1959 - 1965) whose 32 segments have been delineated by the beginnings and endings of songs, not necessarily by fade-outs. Each segment is a place holder for those of you who are called away while viewing.

The choppy music in some segments resulted from the deletion of nude scenes, mugs or wumps.

Thanks to John Mercer whose original Hyde Bay Camp website provided the impetus for Warren to locate the master tapes, and to Fred Gale who converted them to optical disk.

Warren, we wish you were here. Thank you.

Turn on your speakers and enjoy!
