John Mercer - Not a lovely portrait of my lovely sister Carolyn. Marked "1955." This was the last year the Mercers were at Hyde Bay together as a family. Reasons for leaving: (1) Dad found he could make more money in the summers teaching reading skills in South Byfield, Massachusetts; (2) Kittie (my mom) had had 15 years of it and enough is enough; (3) Carolyn was 13 going on 14 and lovely, and that would not be an easy place for a girl to be.
