THE HOME-LETTER FOR WEEK OF JULY FIFTH, 1930.
WEIGHT CONTEST.
A weekly contest in weight gaining,with rules for the proper gaining of weight and appropriate prizes of candy,will be inaugurated shortly.
A CAMP# STORE.
Candy is now being sold at camp under the supervision of Mrs. Pickett who also selects it. Quality, amount and times of distribution are well regulated. It is on a strictly cash basis.
BUNKS.
The weekly contest in neatest bunks was won by Eddie Talmage for the younger boys while Jack Taliaferro and Donny Tag were tied among the older group.
SAILBOAT.
The sailboat was delayed by the breaking of its mast but is now in constant use with unusually good sailing weather.
OVER-NIGHT HIKE.
The first overnight hike was the usual " Strawberry Mountain" climb. The opinion seems to be unanimous that it was a success. It was fortunate in falling on our first moderately warm night.
WEATHER
We have had nearly a week of really warm weather always tempered by the constant lake breeze. It has made swimming very popular.
ARRIVALS.
Page Smith arrived for his#fourth summer while the Summer Schol welcomed Harry Smith for History and Plane. Lawson Cook also dropped in for a two weeks stay.
NEW SCHEDULE.
Increased enrollment has made it necessary to post a new tutoring schedule with a new Master, Professor Blessing of Franklin and Marshall College,who has also had a large experience of school work. He will help in Mathematics.
CIRCUS.
The small boys and councillors attended one of the three surviving small circuses. The were delighted to see the same tailess lion and aged performers as last year. It played at Richfield Springs.
MIRACLE.
The oldest resident,our Ford truck, emerged from the garage with a new vigor beyond belief. It will ply faithfully for the milk with its usual crew of a dozen small boys and the pilot.
BRIDGE.
The rustic bridge is nearly done . It replaces the old "Scout" bridge over the steam near the acquarium. The latter has a number of inhabitants formerly resident in the lake.
BEGINNER.
Ian Gordon won his beginners' button in swimming as did Amory Carhart. Bobby Pickett passed his canoe test. This is his seventh year of life and sixth of camp.
FISH.
Larry Pickett leads in the number of fish caught. No questions are asked as to size and weight.
HORSES.
Chuck and Topsy will be at camp the first of#this week. Another is being sought.
BALL GAME.
Saturday saw the first ball game with much spirit and a few errors. One team defeated the other! The other team has not lost# its"pep"and will stage a comeback this week with a revamped line-up. Note the journalistic style.
PARTY.
In honor of the birth-day of Freddy Weaver the small boys had a very enjoyable time at the " Yellow House." .
Beattiful sunsets and its is rumored the sunrises are as good. Water very good and conditions generally very good.
MOVIES.
All the Summer School boys attended movies in Cooperstown on Saturday night.
